Jasmine

Jasmine is one of the few, highly skilled Plombites remaining. Plombing is a supernatural ability which presents itself in early childhood and, if not recognized and honed, disappears when the child exits the age of innocence. Plombites use their gems to find water and minerals, lost items or persons, and communicate with the dead or incorporeal entities. Plombing has been regarded with contempt in recent years, sending many Plombites into hiding, and is only taught in secret, usually within families who still cling to their traditions.

Jasmine is a precocious child, always seems to be one step ahead of everyone else, and is more than happy to point it out. She has access to ancient knowledge through the spirits, and has become very wise from them. It's almost easy to forget that Jasmine is such a young child, but her youth presents itself in jarring ways at times, when she declares boys disgusting, or willingly climbs into strangers' wagons without considering there might be danger.

She is not without protection, however, even in the most dangerous places. With so few Plombites communicating with the spirits, Jasmine has become a beacon, and spirits will band together in droves to keep her from harm.

The spirits can't make boys less disgusting though.
